With 9 tracks weighing in at 42 minutes, the debut album from APEIRAGE kicks a lot of ass. The album, titled Raging Storm, would fit in right alongside Testament, Heathen or any number of other of the more melodic side of thrash. Hailing from Munich, Germany, they come from a country rich with metal history. There are many influences that can be heard in Raging Storm, like a bit of early In Flames, and hints of bands the members were previously in such as Red to Grey.
Let’s talk about the album itself, because there is quite a lot to love on this record. The lyrics, for instance, are extremely catchy. From the track Raging Storm to Faceless Gods, there are hooks left and right. By the second listening APERIAGE already had me half singing the lyrics, and by the third time I was singing along no problem, much to the chagrin of the people beside me in traffic.
Jürgen Dachl, the vocalist, displays a wide range of vocal style and emotion in the way he delivers his lyrics. At points on the record, like on my personal favorite track Annihilation of Death, he shows a gruffer side. Other times it’s a cleaner delivery, but never feels out of place. For another track that shows the breadth of the vocalists styling as well as the general grooviness (sorry) of the band, check out this lyric video for Faceless Gods.
The album itself was first starting to be worked on as early as 2016 when the band first got together with the three founding members, Robin, Flo and Jose. When Jürgen and Maxi completed the line-up, they combined their musical ideas along with the original three and the collective quintet put forward their efforts into what is now their unpredictable and brilliant debut, Raging Storm.
With the band as tight as they are, this doesn’t feel so much like a debut as one that should be further along in their career. All I can say is that I am very excited to see where APERIAGE goes onto from here. As always, be sure to give APERIAGE a like over on their Facebook to keep up to date with show dates and upcoming news, because believe me, you'll want to hear what they have coming next.
