Band: Creative Waste
Album: Condemned
Label: Independent
When I first stumbled upon the Saudi Arabian grindcore veterans Creative Waste, I was shook. How had I not heard of these guys before? I must've been hiding under a rock, because their blend of ferocity is hard to stifle and ignore. The band not only has been around in one way or another for almost 20 years, they also played on the stage of the first ever public metal concert in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia just last year!
Sharing the stage with the likes of heavy hitters Napalm Death and others, Creative Waste have honed their songwriting skills over the years and Condemned is a masterpiece, if only a tad shorter than I'd have liked it to be. Not that their songs are super short by any means, even for the blazing speed of the genre! The complexity that they present at times, both lyrically and instrumentally, are a breath of fresh air in what can sometimes feel as though a contest on who can pound out bars the quickest.
"Today is time to stop singing, and start swinging." The quote from Malcolm X personifies the attitude that Creative Waste use throughout the entire record, and is sampled right at the beginning (man, I love some well placed samples.) Fawaz Al-Shawaf, doing double duty on bass and vocals, barks and shouts out messages spotlighting injustices at social, political and economical levels. While there are a few other upcoming grindcore releases I'm looking forward to, Creative Waste are gonna give them all a major run for their money this year. Condemned released on March, 28th 2020.
I'm giving Condemned an 8/10
