I, Voidhanger Records sure has introduced myself to some of the oddest and most wonderful records I've ever listened to. From TCHORNOBOG to ÆVANGELIST I've come across some gloriously sinister gems, and now FLESHVESSEL seems to be ticking all the right boxes as well.

Hailing from Chicago, a city that holds one of my favorite bands (Immortal Bird), FLESHVESSEL is hammering out death metal with more than a little bit of an experimental edge to it. Fresh is a poor way of describing it - a reconstruction of mutated metal to better fit our times is a better way. Lead by Alexander Torres, FLESHVESSEL refuses to be deterred by tradition as they weave through chamber music and the cavernous sounds of osdm with an updated feeling to it.

The EP, Bile of Man Reborn, is a single track that has three distinct passages, or chapters, within it. The first passage, as suggested from some promotional material, sounds as if the putrefied remains of the NYC jazz band Mahavishnu Orchestra was dug up for one last sonic journey. There's a wonderful cavernous sound to the song which makes it feel as though you're listening to it in a concert hall.

Bile of Man Reborn is massive, no mistake about that. Torres, in a seemingly effortless way, melds a variety of instrumentation together that sounds altogether new and sublime. I know, I know, it sounds as if I'm starting to talk in circles a bit. But honestly, this is some of the best new music I've heard in a while! It makes you think, gets your head banging and is all around good music that is sure to turn heads anywhere it is played.

Check out the song below, and consider supporting the artist!

I'm giving Bile of Man Reborn a 10/10
