With blistering intensity, So-Cal natives Madrost are returning with their 4th full length record on the 25th of September, and I couldn't be more excited for the world to hear it. I first heard Madrost with their 2017 album, The Essence of Time Matches No Flesh, and fell in love with their blend of progressive death/thrash. The 4 piece continue to carve out their own sound with Charring the Rotting Earth, and buddy, it sounds fantastic.
Imagine if you take the more progressive elements of Death and add in more symphonic elements, i.e. piano passages and synth, you'd be pretty close to what Madrost is laying down. Compared to their last album, the production quality is improved quite a lot which I'd assume has something to do with Hannes Grossman (Obscura, Alkaloid, Hate Eternal, etc) on mixing/mastering detail. Every instrument comes through with striking clarity, and of course Tanner's vocals are as aggressive as ever.
Charring the Rotting Earth is a powerhouse of metal and a perfect record to show your friends who say that metal is dead. If this shit don't slap that notion out of their head, I'm afraid there's no hope for them - just toss them in a garbage compacter. With these So-Cal lads holding the torch I'm extremely hopeful for the future of metal. Check out the single and title track below!
I'm giving Charring the Rotting Earth a 10 out of mother fucking 10
I only have good things to say about this record, and honestly may be my favorite release of the year. If you dig the single, be sure to follow Madrost on their social medias and do yourself a favor and pre-order the record!
