There are times here at Wicked Metal Review that I happen to stumble upon a release that, while not new to the world, I had not previously come across. The riff stomping playground that is Undimensioned Identities from Fargo, North Dakota band Phobophilic is one of those. While not much is known about the band, thanks to their lack of social media presence, this EP should not be taken lightly.
The tracks are grimy, razor sharp and will awaken the inner caveman in you. From the opening track "That Which Swallowed The Sun" to closer "Synaptic Vessel," it's easy to see that Phobophilic aint fucking around. The lyrics orbit around Lovecraftian's writings with ease, and the instrumentation is impeccably wrought. There are hints of punk-esque beats from skins player Tweten, Poer and Dudgeon on guitars weave through riffs with ease, and bass player - Alm - is present throughout and even has some standalone lines that are chunky as hell. Dudgeon doubles his duty with his low crackling vocal styling that fit the atmosphere of the band perfectly.
If you happen to be a fan of the OSDM genre, as I am, I'd recommend checking this band out if you hadn't done so already.
