Band: Road Warrior
Album: Mach II
Label: Gates of Hell
Genre: Heavy Metal
Alright, time for a palate cleanser after all the extremity I've been reviewing. Raging in from the rough Australian terrain, Road Warrior have stopped stoking the fire. Instead, they've emptied entire cans of accelerant on top of an already raging fire.
The group had released their debut record, Power, back in 2018 to favorable review from critics and listeners alike. Deminal Blake, the band's vocalist and bassist, is a song writer by trade. The theme for Mach II was, quite simply, more. More riffs, more vocals and more licks. After reviewing Power a few times for the sake of this review, I'd say that Blake more than accomplished the goal.
It's a true fact that bands sometimes have a difficult time living up to expectations set from a debut, but in the case of Road Warrior they have delivered a much more cultivated offering of traditional heavy metal. The guitar from Overdryve are playful and deliver some really cool riffs (see "Fiends Behind The Scene"), and Villon's drums do the job in excellent fashion. The whole record is well mixed, with no piece of the band trumping the other for the spotlight. Producer Andy Kite down at Against the Grain Studios did a remarkable job with the sound.
Mach II should be listened to at least once for fans of the genre. Tracks I'd recommend are "Tonight's The Nightmare," "Thunder n' Fighting" and "Wired."
I'm giving Mach II an 8/10
The record releases April, 24th.
FFO: Eternal Champion; Haunt; Night Demon.
