Band: Sarcófago
Album: Hate
Label: Greyhaze Records
Genre: Death Metal
Seeing as how there are so many excellent death metal bands now that are looking to the past for inspiration, it's fitting that we as a community are seeing some of our past favorite be reissued with high-quality remasters.
Brazilian extreme metal band Sarcófago are having their 3rd LP remastered utilizing the original tapes through Greyhaze Records. Of course, the first thing people will still notice is the almost machine-gun like drum machine hammering throughout the entire record. I'm sure I don't need to be the one to tell you that drum machines were highly frowned upon back in the 80's and 90's, and even today to a degree. That fact did not deter Sarcófago however, as they wanted to play the fastest and most brutal metal they could think of.
As I was a very young lad at the time the original released in 1994, I've never listened to it in full till just recently and therefore have the pleasure of experiencing for the first time with fresh ears. I gotta say, whatever issues some may have with a drum machine being used, this is some brutal shit. On the other hand, the slower pieces they have are dark as hell, trudging along with what's honestly stellar guitar work.
The vocals are what really strike me as being impressive however. Wagner Antichrist forgoes the thrashier style he'd used previously and adopted what is almost a Schuldiner like presence. The lyrical content is mostly, well, about hate!
I hate you, I hate me
I hate priests, I hate nuns
I hate my enemies, I hate my friends
I hate religion, I Hate gods
Anyways, if you like your death metal full of hate and. . . more hate, then Sarcófago's Hate is the perfect fit for you! Hate releases in May.
I'm giving Hate a 7.5/10
