Artist: Underking
Song: Dragon Of The West
Genre: Heavy Metal
If you've been on the Wicked Metal Review site before you may remember when I reviewed Underking's previous work from this year, his double releases Ghosts of the Past and Amongst the Dead. Frontman Max hasn't stopped there, as he was inspired by the events of Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender to pen the single Dragon of the West.
The track is a rock ballad, and we get the chance to hear Underking explore a more heartfelt and orchestral sound this time around. I won't say this is a departure from his prior work as Max can seemingly do any style he wants to, but this is a different sound than we've gotten from him before.
While the orchestration of the instruments is great, the highlight is in the way Max performed the lyrics. He utilizes vocal layering in a striking way and the production talents of Stephen of Saw Audio bring all the elements together. I'd suggest listening with headphones for your best possible experience as the vocals dance between in stereo. I only wonder if this single is a look towards projects to come for Underking. I honestly would not mind an album centered around the events of Avatar, but that may just be me.
Underking is releasing the track on the 18th of September, so be sure to check it out when it drops!
