Wednesday Wrangling - April 22nd

Hey all, and welcome to your Wednesday Wrangling. I will be highlighting some new releases with quick bites rather than going into full reviews for each. And with that, let's get into it, shall we?

Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kysni - April, 17th

Finnish psychedelic black metal band (yup) Oranssi Pazuzu have released their 5th full length record, Mestarin kysni, through Nuclear Blast. As the genre would indicate, the record is a total trip. The songs are lengthy, with the shortest at 7:12 and the longest over 10 minutes. If you like your metal experimental, check them out.

Infant Island - Sepulcher - April, 17th

Hailing from my own hometown of Fredericksburg, VA, Infant Island are grinding up the competition with Sepulcher. Being hailed as their best work yet, a mini-LP containing four tracks of unadulterated chaotic rage, come hear the insanity. The highlight is the almost ten minute track, "Awoken," twisting through various genres to bring soaring uplifting heights that seem to touch the heavens.

Funeral Leech - Death Meditation - April, 17th

A doom ridden jewel that, while I had not heard about it before browsing through recent releases, I have to say my life is better for having listened to it. Death Meditation is not a record to take lightly, and as a debut? Holy shit, this is as good a release as other contemporary acts like Temple of Void or Phrenilith. Consider listening on a stormy day surrounded by candles.

Khemmis - Doomed Heavy Metal - April, 17th

Unless you're brand new to the doom metal scene, Khemmis should need no introduction at this point. The Denver group's latest release, Doomed Heavy Metal, is very welcome during these days. While it's not all new music, notably starting off with a cover of the DIO classic, "Rainbow in the Dark," the release is sure to please fans of the band with rarities and three live songs.

Walpurgia - Altar of the Goatbaphomet - April, 17th

Last but not least, Walpurgia released their first demo Altar of the Goatbaphomet on April, 17th. They tag it as bestial war metal and bestial black metal, among others, and it fits quite well. Nazaron's depraved growling fits among the chaos created by guitarist Porphyrion and skins master Sadistic Necrofagos. If you like your black/death metal nice and chunky, give it a whirl.
